I have a new obsession. A new way to waste all of the hours that I don’t have on the internet. A new tool for inspiration and motivation. It is called:
Pinterest is pretty straight forward, especially when you think in terms of pin boards. You create your own boards (e.g photography, cupcakes, home inspiration, party) and then you can “pin” things that you like to them. You can view boards from friends that you follow and can “re-pin” things from them or you can view the most popular pins. You can also search for specific keywords or look under the assigned categories. There is an iPhone app available in the app store which works fairly well and you can download a bookmarklet so you can pin things from anywhere on the internet, as long as it has a fairly large image attached. Each pin is linked back to the original site that it was found from so you can easily access more information.
I can imagine that Pinterest would be excellent for collating ideas and inspirations for children’s parties, weddings, projects or gifts. For the moment I am just “pinning” things that take my fancy – home inspiration ideas (for when we finally get our own home), cupcake ideas, photography ideas and other random things. I’m sure it will come in really handy for me while organising Lily’s next birthday.
For the moment Pinterest is invite-only. If you’d like an invite please let me know. If you are already “pinning” you can follow my boards by clicking on the “P” logo on the right.
So, on to the new project! While I was perusing the popular pins I came across this – a list of ideas for a 30 Day Photo Challenge. I clicked through and discovered that it was started by White Peach Photography, as a challenge for June.
I haven’t had much of a chance lately to be creative with my camera and this seems like a perfect opportunity to do so. I will do a blog post each day with the photo and will also post the photo the Flickr Group started by White Peach Photography.
I’d love for you to join me in doing this challenge! I’m not sure if White Peach has stipulated that phone cameras can not be used but I don’t mind. I will try to use my DSLR for all the photos but I’m sure I will use my iPhone at some stage. Please upload your photos to Flickr, Twitter, Facebook, Photobucket, whatever you want and then link to them in the comments on my post for the day. You can also post them in the Flickr group if you like.
I’m so excited for this challenge and hope you are too! Can’t wait for the first photo – A Self-Portrait – on 1st June, next Wednesday.
