Yup, that’s right! You made it through all 20 days! Seriously, well done for making it this far. I know how difficult it can be (remember I’m doing this along with you!) but I also know how worthwhile it can be.
Remember, it doesn’t matter if you don’t get everything done, every day. The aim is to simply do as much as you can. If you don’t get it done, just do it tomorrow. By doing as much as you can, as many days as you can, you’ll be setting your house up to be easier to maintain and easier to clean.
So where to from here?
Keep going. Keep completing your list each day. Keep working on your zones and your weekly tasks.
Also, make sure you continue to analyse your cleaning routine – is it still working for you? Could you rearrange your zones? Would it be better for you to allocate your tasks to certain days? Or perhaps instead of having a weekly zones, work on a zone a day?
Remember, what is working for you now may not always work. Situations change – I now what is working for me now as a stay-at-home mum with a toddler, a baby and a husband that works incredibly long hours will probably not work if I go back to work, Mr Monkey changes jobs, or when the girls start school.
It’s ok to change things. Trust me, I won’t track you down in a year’s time and yell at you if you aren’t following my routine to the exact letter. Heck, I wouldn’t even do it now! What works for me probably won’t work for you. What worked for me a year ago wouldn’t work for me now. Adjust as you go.
There are some great tools around to help you with your cleaning routine. Of course, there are my free printables, as well as the printable available when you sign up for email updates.
There are lots of great to-do list iPhone apps but I love HomeRoutines. This is a great to-do list that allows you set up routines – for each day, each zone, weekly and monthly. You can set these routines to renew each day, week, fortnight, month or whatever you want. You can also set up general to-do lists and add a reminder or encouragement each day.
Another great iPhone app is Carrot. This is a little different as it is only a straight to-do list. However, it is also a lot of fun. It is a to-do list with a personality – if you don’t complete tasks regularly it gets angry. But as you complete tasks you earn points which give you rewards. It’s very simple and easy to use and you can find yourself creating tasks to complete just to keep Carrot happy! You can also set up reoccurring tasks and reminders which is great for things like “make bed” or “wash dishes”.
