If you haven’t heard of the smash hit Frozen over the last 6 months or so then you must have been living under a rock. We didn’t get to see it at the movies yet I already knew most of the storyline, knew the hit song “Let It Go” by heart and recognised all of the characters.
Of course, I’ve seen most of the Youtube parodies as well. There’s How Frozen Should Have Ended of which I’m a very big fan. I also love these parents who do a fantastic mime to “Love is an Open Door” and “For the First Time in Forever”.
There are, of course, many parodies and covers of “Let it Go”. This one man/many voices Pixar/Disney voices cover is excellent. I haven’t really watched any of the (many) videos of kids singing the song but I love this one where the girl is photobombed by her dad.
I love Jimmy Fallon and his covers on classroom instruments. The cover of “Let it Go” doesn’t disappoint. There’s also the great cover by Christina Bianco featuring the voices of many great female artists.
For something a little different there’s the Piano Guys version of melding of “Let it Go” and Vivaldi’s “Winter”. Beautiful!
And there’s always the immenseely talented (and slightly goofy) guys and gal from the Youtube star group Pentatonix with their Frozen medley.
Even though Frozen is everywhere it hadn’t been on Lily’s radar. So I was excited for her to see it without any prior knowledge or expectation. She loved it and has watched it about 15 times since we first got it. She’s started singing the songs when not watching which means she really likes it!
I asked her my usual questions – what was your favourite part and which part didn’t you like etc. I didn’t get much of a response and it actually took a few days to get any response from her. Four year olds are awesome aren’t they?
But the response I did get was that she doesn’t have a favourite character, she likes the part where Sven the reindeer gets the ice crystals on his antlers, she doesn’t like the big snow monster and she doesn’t like the part where he chases Anna and Christof. Her favourite song is the second section of “For the First Time in Forever” and I’ve caught her singing it to herself as she plays with her toys.
I will admit that I really enjoyed the movie too. I love that it deviates from other Disney movies – you can’t marry someone you just met! The songs are super catchy (yes they’ve been stuck in my head every day) and there is some great humor throughout. Plus the animation is amazing!
My favourite character is Olaf and I love his song “In Summer”:
“Winter’s a good time to stay in and cuddle,
But put me in summer and I’ll be a…happy snowman!”
So yes, I’ll admit, sometimes I like childrens’ movies more than the children! I’m a huge fan of Curious George (Mr Monkey bought it for me way before we had children), the Lorax and now Frozen. I quite often (subtly) influence Lily’s choice when she wants to choose a DVD.
Come on, tell me I’m not alone! Fill out the form below to go in the draw to win 1 of 3 DVD copies of Frozen. Just tell me which kids’ movie you secretly really enjoy!
