Last Saturday was Lily’s birthday and we had her Peppa Pig party with her friends at my in-law’s house yesterday. Planning a big party probably wasn’t the best idea with my anxiety issues but it’s something that I very much enjoy doing and something I want to do for my children. We kept it small by only inviting our Mothers Group plus two of Lily’s friends from school. My in-law’s were kind enough to agree to have it at their house and took care of the setting up and cleaning. My Mum came to stay from Friday, babysat Chloe while I went to my psychologist appointment, helped me do the grocery shopping for the party then did the majority of the cooking on Saturday, plus finished off a few of the decorations.
Mr Monkey, unfortunately, only had the day of the party off but he was able to help in the setting up and made a really delicious mousse to make Muddy Puddle Cups. The set up as rather daunting on the day but we somehow managed to stay fairly calm and organised.
The party itself seemed to go very well. The kids were all really well behaved and seemed to have a lot of fun. I think we had enough food and it was enjoyed. The kids didn’t quite get the idea of Musical Muddy Puddles (like musical chairs but with puddles made from cardboard) but they seemed to enjoy the game anyway. Lily didn’t get too overwhelmed, except for when we wanted a photo after cutting her cake and when asked her to say thank you to our family after she opened her presents. But she played with her friends and talked to others and I’m really proud of how she behaved overall. Especially as she’s had a bit of a cold the last few days, which normally sends her in to a grump.
We had her swimming lesson this morning and Mum and Dad stayed at our house last night so came with us. Lily’s also doing really well with her swimming this year, but we’re still working on jumping without holding on to the teacher too much.
Mum and Dad then looked after the girls and Mr Monkey and I went off to celebrate our 6th Wedding Anniversary (which was actually yesterday). Normally we would have a night away and dinner at a fancy restaurant but money is too tight this year and Chloe is too young (and feeds too much!) to leave over night. So our best plan this year was to do something for lunch. I had hoped to go back to the beach where we had our first date but we woke up to a rainy, miserable day. So plans were changed and we ended up at a local sushi train before heading in to the cinema to watch the new Mandela movie.
We were all exhausted after bidding goodbye to my parents and heading home. Lily fell asleep in the car on the way home, Mr Monkey fell asleep on the lounge room floor and I attempted to have a nap on the couch. Of course, Chloe didn’t want to cooperate!
But Mr Monkey woke up and kindly organised dinner – chorizo burgers using leftover beef patties and chorizo sausages from the freezer and hand cut some chips to cook in the oven. Super yummy plus it used up some leftovers!
Tomorrow we’ll be heading to the library to take Lily’s books back plus pick up a few for me for our camping trip, then off to do the grocery shopping for the week.
Wednesday will be spent at home then on Thursday Lily is back to school and I’ll be catching up with the lovely Kate from Katie 180 and Mr Monkey’s awesome cousin, Traci, as well as meeting their beautiful babies for the first time.
I’m keeping the meals fairly simple this week as we’ll be getting ready to go camping on Sunday! With all of the planning for Lily’s birthday I forgot all about our big camping trip, so the week will be planned getting everything together.
