Yeah I know. Long time, no blog. But life has been pretty full on lately.
I had my first appointment with my psychologist which went really well. She was lovely and just asked me to explain what I had been dealing with and then we went through my childhood and different major events throughout my life. She gave me some homework; to monitor whenever I have anxious feelings, the situation that caused it and how I deal with it.
So I left the appointment feeling pretty good. It felt good to have started on something. Monitoring my thoughts and feeling was hard – it almost seemed like taking notice of them made it feel worse. Especially when I couldn’t identify why I was feeling anxious. Feeling anxious about feeling anxious isn’t particularly nice.
So things were going along ok until I was struck down Monday night with a very sore throat. At first I thought it was just a cold but by Tuesday I couldn’t speak and my Mum offered to take Lily for a few days. Luckily she did as I spent Tuesday and Wednesday on the couch, unable to eat, sleeping most of the day and attending to Chloe’s very basic needs. On Thursday I sucked it up and saw the doctor who was astonished I was sitting and talking to him after he looked at my tonsils. Yup, extremely bad tonsillitis. I needed to go on antibiotics ASAP and he told me I wouldn’t be able to breastfeed while on them. Cue huge meltdown from me upon leaving his office – Chloe feeds a LOT, will not take a bottle, feeds to sleep 98% of the time. I simply had no idea how I was going to cope. Mum was bringing Lily home that afternoon so offered to stay, take Lily to school the next day then drive me down to their house for the weekend. Together we’d all muddle through it.
Thankfully I thought to ask the pharmacist when I had my prescription filled – he wasn’t allowed to give me a definite answer but printed his research which showed it was fine to continue to breastfeed. I then called the Mothersafe hotline who confirmed this. I would normally take the word of the doctor but I felt that a pharmacist knows drugs and Mothersafe know breastfeeding women…
So that was a bit less of a stressor! Mum and Dad still stayed over and I still went down to their house as I was pretty much a mess. Completely wiped most of the time. This being sick thing is exhausting! By Saturday I was able to start winding back the pain relief and Sunday I only took one lot of panadol. I haven’t taken any today and while I feel a little tender I’m definitely a lot better. A lot of the exhaustion has gone too thankfully!
Lily was complaining of an ear ache on and off over the weekend but has come down with a cold today. I think her ears may have been blocked but she wasn’t able to express that.
Busy week ahead with the lead up to Christmas – have to finish the Christmas present shopping as I wasn’t able to do it last week. Cull Lily’s toys to make space for new ones. Wrap all of the presents.
I also have a doctor appointment for Chloe to check on her head measurement again and my psych appointment on Friday. Lily is going to Grandma & Grandad’s house on Wednesday night before going to a special Angelina Ballerina “Mouseical” at the Opera House on Thursday.
Then she’s off to the movies with Uncle Steve and Aunty Ang on Saturday and then we head down to my parents’ house to start with the preparations for Christmas. How is it already a week until Christmas!
