I’m lying on the floor of Lily’s room, writing this on my phone, while breast feeding Chloe to sleep. As you do. Lily is fidgeting and rolling and just generally refusing to go to sleep.
We’ve had a big day – it was my niece’s 4th birthday party at a play centre and the girls had a fantastic time. Plus they ate a whole lot of sugar (well actually not a lot but enough to give them a bit of a buzz).
After not much sleep last night (combination of me staying up late to read and Lily wetting the bed, that we were sharing, at 3.30am) we were
a little tired and emotional but the party went off well. Luckily I was able to have a nap this afternoon because I was barely able to focus by 3pm.
Both girls slept for the entire 1.5hr trip home as I negotiated the pouring rain and fog. Of course, having a nap so late meant that neither wants to go to sleep when it’s bedtime and have been bouncing around the walls all evening. Oh well.
Anyway, a bit of a busy week this week and I’ll admit that it’s not the greatest meal plan.
Monday we will hopefully be going out to the in-law’s for dinner (just me and the girls as Mr Monkey has to work). Our washing machine died last week and we were only able to get someone booked to look at it on Monday. They’ve given me the timeframe of “afternoon” so I’m hoping it’s not too late.
Tuesday Mr Monkey should be off work and my only plans are to go for a run and go to the library. Then that evening we have an information night for Lily’s big school at 6pm so we’ll probably just have something like noodles or toasted sandwiches, either before we go or when we get back.
Wednesday is groceries day and Mr Monkey should be off work again. A few meals this week have come from the newest edition of Healthy Food Guide magazine (I have a subscription so I don’t think it’s in stores yet). Lily helped me choose the meals and we both liked the look of the Roast chicken & potatoes w/ petits pois. The chicken is actually done with just chicken breasts which is perfect for me as I don’t like whole roast chickens (the skin, the greasiness, ick!!).
Thursday and Friday Lily is at school. There’s been some changes there lately and one change is the routine, including pushing dinner back to 5pm instead of 4.30pm. Lily doesn’t really need to eat dinner there but she likes to, and if I arrive around then to pick her up I have to wait until she’s finished. That normally means leaving around 5pm which gives me enough time to come home and cook our dinner (yes Lily eats two dinners on school days!). But if they’re not having dinner until 5pm then I probably won’t get out of there until 5.30pm. I’m going to see how it goes this week but I’m thinking of planning mostly slow cooker meals on school days so there is not much prepping/cooking when we get home and I can have dinner on the table quickly. We love meat loaf so I’m interested to give this slow cooker recipe a try. Lily chose the pasta recipe from the magazine as well – mostly because it has 3 of her favourite things = pasta, bacon and “peas” (broad beans).
The weekend will be full of packing and cleaning as we leave for a week’s holiday on Monday. I wasn’t sure if Lily would like the Moroccan spiced eggs but she looked at the picture and said they looked yummy. I’ll probably scale down the spices on hers and maybe omit some of the tomato (which she doesn’t tend to like).
I’m not actually sure what we’ll have for dinner on Sunday as we will have to pretty much empty the fridge before we go away. Also my parents might be staying the night as they’re driving us to the airport the next day. So it might just be a “see what you can find” type dinner!
