Meal Plan - The Flying Drunken Monkey

Most of my recipes on this meal plan come from the Super Food Ideas Magazine, October 2012 edition. This is actually the first time I’ve used this magazine and I’ve found some great, simple recipes. Might be a new regular thing!

Doing the grocery shopping last week I picked up a copy of the new Healthy Food Guide Magazine, as usual. However, I also grabbed the Super Food Ideas Magazine, October 2012 edition. I had heard people commenting about this magazine and the good, simple recipes in it but hadn’t read a copy so far. I think I was put off by the idea of a whole magazine of recipes! I was scared it would be a bit overwhelming.

However, I’ve really liked this issue. Some of the recipes I’m not very interested in or ones that include “1 can of tomato soup” or “taco seasoning”, where I prefer to use as many ingredients from scratch as possible. But there are some great recipes in there. I put together a quick list of recipes that looked good and then chose a few for this week that matched my requirements – e.g. 1 vegetarian, 1 chicken, etc. (Although the vegetarian this week is the Veggie Risotto, using up leftover veggies and meaning we can do the grocery shopping later in the week).

Tonight, Mr Monkey is going to cook the Family Chicken & Corn Pie- we were supposed to have it last night but my family surprised us by appearing at our house. Dad and my brother installed some new power points and light switches so that we could install our freezer in the laundry and we all went to the local Bowling Club for old-school chinese food. It was a great night – there was a band playing and the girls’ went crazy on the dance floor, Dad got to watch the Grand Final of the footy, we bought a few tickets in the meat raffle but didn’t win anything and it was nice to be able to walk there and back.

Otherwise, not much interesting happening this week. I’m hopefully attending the Open night at the Buddhist Centre again this Wednesday night after missing a few weeks. I haven’t planned a meal as my parents’ are babysitting and we normally just end up going out for dinner.

I also have an event on Friday lunch time so have planned the Mint & Chili haloumi with roast veg salad as it should be a fairly easy meal – chuck all of the veg in to roast and just pan fry the haloumi.

What’s on your meal plan this week? Do you have a great meal planning magazine or resource you want to share?

  1. I used to buy SFI, Good Taste and Recipes+ all the time, for about 4-5 years in a row. Fab recipe and many I still use today. But after buying for that long I realised that each month of the year had a certain theme. for example every february was always back to school ideas. Not a bad idea but after buying it for 4 years I realised they were many of the same recipes just with a different twist.
So I went through my mags, cut out the recipes I wanted to try and passed the rest onto friends.
I hadn’t bought one in ages but did pick up one (can’t remember which one now lol) the other day and loved some of the recipes.

Completely understand! I’ve noticed that with HFG too but I just really love the mag (have been buying for about a year and half). I’ve just noticed that I tend to get bored using the same recipes over and over and normally need to find a completely new resource as an “inspiration boost”.
