Big week here this week! Can you believe Lily is turning 3 on Friday?!? I started this blog when she was just over a year old and here we are with a toddler! On the one hand it seems like only yesterday she was born, on the other it seems she was always here. I can’t wrap my head around the fact that I’ll be doing it all again real soon!
We had Lily’s swimming lesson this morning and it seems she is back in to the swing of things; no problems getting in the water and she got her teacher to put her goggles on straight away. She wore them for about half the lesson before they started annoying her by falling down a bit but it was the absolute longest she has ever worn them. We still need to work on her confidence jumping in to the water (she has to hold the teacher’s hands) but otherwise she is going really, really well.
Spending the day doing some cleaning, moving furniture and hopefully getting some posts written. Mr Monkey will be going around to our local seafood shop soon to get fish for dinner. He made a great discovery there last week – blackfish! He says he had heard of it before and that it was tasty but was a bit put off by how cheap it was (only $5 a kilo!). He decided to grab some last week and cooked it in parcels in the oven and it was delicious! Very soft with a rather mild taste. And as a kilo is more than enough for the three of us it certainly is budget friendly! Tonight he is just going to grill it with some home made chips and pesto made from our basil that has gone crazy with all of the rain we’ve had lately. Hopefully I can convince him to make up a bit more than we need as I love pesto.
Tomorrow it’s just Lily and I home so after my midwife appointment in the morning we will probably just spend the afternoon cleaning (the house has gone to **** again and I need to tidy it up for Lily’s party). Just a simple Pea & Feta Risotto for dinner.
My Mum and niece (and possibly my Dad?) are coming up on Wednesday to babysit Lily while I go to my night at the Buddhist Centre. I made a big batch of Bolognese sauce on Sunday so will be defrosting that and having it with some spaghetti before I head off. Dad will be heading home but Mum and Olivia will be staying for the rest of the week to help out with the birthday plans.
Thursday is shopping day – sorting out the pass-the-parcel prizes and goody bags for the party. Mr Monkey starts a few weeks of holidays that day too so hopefully I can rope him in to helping clean the house. He’ll also be cooking dinner so I got him to help with the meal plan this week – he decided on doing Beef Ribs w/ Mash as apparently beef ribs are fairly cheap at the moment. He’ll also be cooking up extra mash to have later in the week.
Friday is Lily’s birthday!! I have a small gift to give her in the morning and then she has school. Granny will be coming with us to drop her off and Mr Monkey is making banana or chocolate cupcakes to take for her friends (depending on how ripe the bananas are by then). While she’s at school we’ll be putting her present together – a new toy kitchen from Ikea. She’s going to love it! That night we’re going to a local Japanese restaurant for dinner with Granny, Olivia, Grandma & Grandad.
Speaking of school, you may have seen me bragging a bit last Friday if you follow my Facebook page. When I picked her up on Friday I spoke with her teacher (carer) and he said that seeing as it is her birthday this week and the fact that she is very, very clever, she is ready to move up to the 3-4yo room! They share the room with the 4-5yo (preschool room) so do a bit of preschool work and more structured activities. He said that as she knows all of her letters, numbers (counted to 30 by herself), colours etc. she is more than ready. They also put her in that room for a little while to see how she’d go and they said she handled it fantastically. We have no reference really to know how clever she is but thought it was a bit unusual that she knew so much. It was really great to hear that she is rather clever and I have to admit that I feel more than a bit proud. We’ll miss her current carer and I wish she could go more than once a week but I know she is going to love it. Just need to get the toilet training sorted first!
Saturday is actually our wedding anniversary (5 years!) but as money is a bit tight at the moment and we’re concentrating on Lily’s birthday and party, we’re going to celebrate with a night away next month. Saturday will be spent getting ready for Lily’s party and finishing off the shopping, plus doing the dry good shopping for camping the next week. Mr Monkey is cooking dinner again and has decided to make chicken pie with potato Croquettes made from the leftover mashed potato.
The big day of the week is Sunday with Lily’s birthday party. We’re having it at home, hopefully in the backyard if the weather behaves. It’s going to be a bit of a tight squeeze with 24 adults and 12 kids but hopefully it will be ok. If it rains we’re going to move as much as possible from downstairs to upstairs and will just have to spread everyone between the lounge room and dining room. I’ll hopefully remember to take lots of photos but might not get a post up on here until after we’re back from camping. We’re all likely to be tired after the party finishes so will either have leftover party food or takeaway for dinner.
So, busy, busy week but I know it’s going to be a good one.
