Once again I forgot to write the update as I went along so this month I thought I’d try something a little different. First I wanted to share a bit of what happened for us in September:
Lily went in a strange taxi and then on a plane. She slept the entire trip of the first flight, then looked at the clouds, played with the blind and watched Dora on the flight home.
We went to an absolutely beautiful wedding in Brisbane. Lily slept through the ceremony then had fun with my parents walking around Southbank and watching the laser show. We drank and danced and had an awesome time.
I fell over while crossing the road and hurt both of my knees. Yet I was still determined to start the Couch to 5K program and managed to do 2 runs. Unfortunately my knees have been hurting to just walk and I haven’t attempted to run since. I’m not sure if it has anything to do with the fall or not but it hurts!!
We cooked some great food including Pesto Penne with Chicken and my first attempt at Silverside with a Herbed Béchamel. Yum! We also made biscuits and Lily ate 10 of them before I had a chance to finish icing them.
Lil was as cute as ever. She fell in love with the swings at the playground and would sit on there for hours if we let her. She finally has enough hair for me to tie it in the fountain but she doesn’t let me do it often. And of course, she got in and made a mess wherever she could.
So it was an eventful month and this was only really a snapshot. There was much laughter and love, a trip to my parents’ house as they were looking after my cousins for a week and much work stress for Mr Monkey.
Now, on to the housework. Below you can see a simple table that shows what I got done in the zones I had planned for this month:
Hmm, well the month obviously started off well and then started going downhill. I guess I just ran out of steam by the end of the month.
The lovely Meyser at Cat on the Window Sill mentioned me in a recent post:
The nice thing about The Flying Drunken Monkey, is that she’s so real. She plans on a lot of things, and then only does a few of them, and she’s honest about it.
I had to laugh when I read this: that’s definitely me! I always plan a lot of things but don’t always get them done. But as I commented on her post, I think I’ve come a long way since I first started this blog. Of course, I have my off days (or weeks) and I’m still far from perfect but overall I think I’m getting better. (I wrote this before my post the other day).
So, the kitchen. There isn’t a whole lot to do in the kitchen and it feels pretty manageable most weeks. Besides the usual jobs it’s mostly just wiping everything down. I’ve left the de-cluttering alone for awhile but I think I need to do the pantry again; Lily keeps getting in there and moving things around and I think it’s time to throw some things away. I’d also like to do a quick inventory of what we have as I think we are not using some things to their potential, simply because we forget we have them. I’d love to have a blackboard on the front of the cupboard that I could update, or even just paint the front of the cupboard with blackboard paint but I don’t think Mr Monkey will agree to it.
Whoo hoo! Everything done in the bathroom this week! I find it helps having such a small bathroom and I’m sure not having a glass shower helps a lot too. I am going to have a try next month of attacking the mould in the tiles on the walls of the bath/shower. It was there when we moved in and I haven’t really found anything that will budge it. After our success with the clove oil in the bedroom I’ve decided to give that a go. I’ll also have to make sure next month that I clean behind the washing machine.
Speaking of the clove oil success… Actually the most work probably got done in the bedroom. For some reason, Mr Monkey and I seemed to be feeling productive on the same day! That almost never happens! Or probably more likely, Mr Monkey was just following along and doing what I asked of him.
We pulled the bed away from the wall and I started to clean it down with a mixture of water, bicarb and vinegar. Mr Monkey helped with washing the high sections of the wall and then we mixed 1/8 teaspoon of clove oil in a 500ml spray bottle of water. We then sprayed the whole wall and left it for 20mins. After the time was up we scrubbed the walls and then resprayed it. We then moved the bed back against the wall and started to move Lily’s cot away from the other wall. As we were doing this we realized that we should probably pull down the change table as we no longer use it (we change Lily on the bed now). So we started pulling it apart and moved all of the nappies in to a large bag, it’s not a perfect solution but it would do for the moment. We then repeated the clove oil procedure on the other wall and moved everything back. We vacuumed the whole room while the furniture was out and cleaned up some of the other areas. Since we’ve done this I have also borrowed a hanging soft shelf unit from my sister for the nappies. Once again, it’s not an ideal situation but it’s getting there.
So a big difference in the bedroom this month, but the biggest difference has been the mould. It had been worrying me for so long so it’s fantastic to see it all gone. The clove oil worked miracles. We’ll just have to see how it works to keep it away.
And then things started to go downhill. That computer room is going to be the end of me!! Once I moved the folders down next to the filing cabinet that cleared up some room on top of the drawers. So I decided it was about time I got in and cleared out that stationery. I went through all of the pens etc, checking which worked and which could be thrown out. I ended up with a small ice cream container of pens and another filled with other stationery. Of course, not an ideal solution but it will have to do for now. So the top of the drawers have been cleared off a little but there is still the drawer full of unused electrical cords and other things that I don’t know what to do with; I need Mr Monkey to go through these.
So, that’s September. A busy month and partially successful. Let’s hope October is better.
