I was invited to attend the Target Toy Sale VIP night last Tuesday, as part of being a Target Toy Sale ambassador through 360 Immerse. They had also given me a gift voucher to spend so after going through the catalogue off Mr Monkey and I went with a long list in hand.
We decided to get Lily and Chloe’s Christmas presents as well as a few presents for my niece and nephew for birthdays and Christmas. (By the way, did I mention I have a nephew?! Mr Monkey’s brother and his wife had a little baby boy just 9 days after Chloe was born. Will be so cool to see them grow up being so close in age!)
We went to sushi train before heading in with Lily and her Grandma & Grandad. It was Lily and Grandma’s first time at sushi train and they both loved it. Lily only had one piece of sushi but polished off almost an entire plate of edamame by herself. She loved watching all of the plates go around on the train and pointed out all of the different coloured plates. Her and Grandma & Grandad then went back to our house as we went off to Target.
We met up with Kristie from Hespera’s Garden out the front and in we went. We were very surprised with how quiet it was – I was expecting huge crowds with crazy Mums with very full trolleys. Instead it was like shopping on a normal day – quite a few people but still a pleasant shopping experience with no fights over the last toys. Actually, our store didn’t seem to run out of any toys, as I’ve heard others did. At least while we were there.
As part of being a Target Toy Sale ambassador I took part in the Toy Race on Twitter and Instagram – 360 Immerse posted photo prompts and as we shopped we took some creative photos. Here’s my photos:
It was quite similar to Fat Mum Slim’s Photo A Day Challenge and as I haven’t been participating in that for awhile it was great to get a bit creative again.
I had Chloe in the Hugabub and of course after about 15 minutes she woke up and decided she needed a feed. Thankfully, as I was well prepared with a list Mr Monkey was able to go around and find the toys we wanted while I fed Chloe in the shoe section. We managed to get everything that was on the list, bar one item (which wasn’t part of the toy sale).
Here’s what we bought:
Lily’s Christmas present
Lily has only just gotten to the stage where she can ride a 30cm bike – she’s always been too short to reach the peddles. She still finds it hard to push the peddles around but by Christmas she should be fine. I showed her this bike in the catalogue to see if she’d like it but she also saw a green bike and as green was her favourite colour that day she said she wanted that one. However, we ended up getting this one as she loves Tinkerbell and I just know she’ll change her mind by Christmas. Hopefully she’ll forget about the green bike by then too!
I actually noticed the day after we bought this that Big W have the same bike in their toy sale for $50 cheaper. I went back to Target today and they refunded me the difference without an issue, thanks to their Price Match Guarantee. Pretty happy with that!
Chloe’s Christmas present
Chloe will only be 7 months old at Christmas and it was a little hard to remember what Lily liked at that age! I love The Very Hungry Caterpillar and I love the new range of products that Target has. This Activity Caterpillar looks like a lot of fun and I’m sure Chloe will love it.
Taggies Safari Explorer Deluxe Door Jumper
Chloe is a bit of a mover already; leave her lying by herself and she’ll wriggle herself around the other way in no time. She also has a lot of strength and loves to “stand” and push off on her feet. I swear if she could work out how to get her belly off the ground and had a little more head control she’d be crawling already! I’m sure she’ll love this door jumper; we didn’t have one with Lily as we didn’t really have a door we could use it in. We might even pull it out earlier than Christmas if she looks like she’ll need it but for the moment it will be a present from Santa.
Lily and Chloe’s combined Christmas present
Yes, Chloe will be a little young for this at Christmas but this is more looking towards the future. Lily loves her Duplo at the moment and although she will be probably ready for actual Lego by the time Chloe starts using the Duplo we don’t want any jealousy happening. By making this a gift for both of them we are hoping to stop that. The above presents will be from Santa and this will be from us; I’m hoping to make the combined present a bit of a tradition.
We also picked up a couple of DVDs for Lily and some clothes for Chloe. I’ll also probably pick up a few books or small toys closer to Christmas.
My Niece’s Birthday Present
It is my niece’s birthday in August so we thought we’d get her present at the same time. She loves Peppa Pig – it’s one of the only TV shows that she’ll sit down and watch. She’s also learning her ABCs and I’m sure this phonic set will be a lot of help for her. She loves these types of electronics and she’ll probably have to fight Lily for it when she’s around, as they do with any other toy.
My Niece’s Christmas Present
My niece loves Dora, although she hasn’t really seen many episodes. She also loves to have baths so I’m sure she’ll love to take Dora and Boots in the bath with her.
My Nephew’s Christmas Present
Our nephew will be the same age as Chloe at Christmas so it was a little hard to think of a present for him too. But Mr Monkey stumbled across this cute little sort and stack train. I remember Lily loving any sort of train toy and any toy that you could stack together. Hopefully our nephew will love it too!
We considered using the layby service but didn’t have much need for it. However, it would have been useful simply for storage! We had to wait until we went to bed before Mr Monkey was able to bring everything inside and the bike is actually still in the back of the car, covered in a blanket. It will be moved inside under our bed when we have a chance. Lily did manage to see one of the presents – the Peppa Pig Phonics. Thankfully it wasn’t one of her presents but Mr Monkey had to have a rather in-depth chat with her to explain that it wasn’t for her and not to tell our niece that she will be getting it for Christmas. Here’s hoping she’ll forget about it by then!
We had a great night and will probably look at using the Target oy Sales again next year. It feels great to already have all of the kid’s presents organised already!
Do you like the Target Toy Sales? And where do you store your Christmas presents so the kids can’t find them??
