Normally this zone includes the laundry as well but I’ve decided to split them up this time, so that I’m more likely to get it done.
So, for all my big plans last week, I didn’t get a whole lot done. I suppose I expected that.
I spent the week (after I got home from my parents’ house on Wednesday) doing basic tidying. I also started working through the piles of dirty washing as the weather had finally cleared after almost two weeks of heavy rain. But it seemed that no matter how much tidying I did, I’d turn around and it’d be a mess again. There were piles of clean washing in the dining room that I needed Mr Monkey to carry upstairs, Lily’s toys were everywhere and the house was just full of… stuff. Finally, by Saturday I’d had enough.
While yelling at Lily to put her toys away I went through the lounge room and dining room and just did a general tidy – rubbish in the bin, things back where they belong, that sort of thing. I managed to carry the washing upstairs (including four loads I pulled off the line) and put them in Lily’s room where I’d have more room to sort them later. After yelling at Lily all morning, she finally put her toys away when I told her I was going to vacuum. I did eventually vacuum too, although I’d almost given up on that happening after being so exhausted from everything else. I also got most of the bench-full of dishes washed.
So, most of the Kitchen Zone didn’t get done. But the house in general seems a bit tidier and I feel a bit more on top of things.
I had planned on continuing and getting the clean washing sorted yesterday but at the time of typing (4.35pm Sunday afternoon) that hasn’t happened. Perhaps I’ll get to it after dinner. (I did end up doing it. I sorted all of the clothes, Lily’s went in her drawers, mine went in one of mine (the others haven’t been fixed) and Mr Monkey’s are still in Lily’s room for him to put away tomorrow. Chloe’s are in a basket downstairs. I also washed all of the dishes. Go me!)
This week, I’m going to tackle the bathroom. It got a good clean a few weeks ago before our rental inspection but has been basically neglected since then. Every time I’m at the sink I think “oh I must get a sponge in here so I can wipe it this down” but never do. The sponges are right in the next room, under the kitchen sink, yet they never end up making their way in to the bathroom. It’s time that changed.
I’ve noticed a little mould on the door leading to the backyard (next to the shower and as we don’t use it, the dirty washing basket sits in front) so will have to give that a wipe over. The shower and bath also need a good wipe over.
Our cat, Mikka, has his litter tray in there and there is constantly litter over the floor. I need to give the whole bathroom a really good sweep and mop.
I’ve also got two topics of my first subject for my course to get through (I got through 2 1/2 last week) and I’d like to get through more as we’ll be away next Sunday – Tuesday. So, am going to have to be extra organised this week.
