I’ve decided to do a general post each week for each Fly Zone. I will post what I am intending to do each week and then do a summary and update at the end of the month.
Because our house is so small we don’t have much in the way of an entrance way or front porch and we don’t have a separate dining room at all. Our “front porch” is a small fenced area that only really holds our council bins. To tell you the truth, I’ve never really cleaned this area or the front door – for some reason it just doesn’t seem like part of the house. Well, it’s time to change that thinking! It is the first impression of our house after all.
The entrance way is a small hallway leading from the front door to the living room, with the door to the spare room on the side. There is enough room for a shoe rack and Lily’s bike and stroller (normally folded up). I would like to get rid of the cheap shoe rack and replace it with a nice set of lower wooden shelves; this would be a nice way to keep the shoes tidy and we could also use the top as a place to put the nappy bag and items that we need for the day. Of course, it could also easily become a HotSpot and it isn’t really in the budget at the moment anyway. Perhaps something to look at it in the future or an idea for when we have our own place. On the left we’ve hung one of my HSC art works and on the right is a few hooks which hold our keys and grocery bags – this helps to remember to take them as we walk out the door!
Our dining room is simply a table in our kitchen – we don’t have a room spare to have a separate dining room and we didn’t use to use the table much. Before I had Lily I used to be home alone most nights while Mr Monkey worked. It felt weird to be sitting at a table all by myself so I would eat downstairs in front of the TV. The table became a place to collect clutter and also the cat’s favourite place in the sun. The only time it would be used would be when my Mum would come over, push the cat off the table, clean it off and make us eat dinner there. I do love to eat dinner as a family around the table and since Lily has started eating, and especially as Mr Monkey has been home for dinner at lot lately, we’ve spent a lot more time there. We still have our lazy nights in front of the TV but I find this really messes up my evening routine – I don’t get up and do the dishes or sweep the kitchen and I have to try to catch up the next day. So I’m going to aim to eat dinner at the table 90% of the time.
So, that’s a run down of the area so here’s what I’m going to do this week:
- Sweep floor
- Clean front screen door
- Tidy shoes
- Pull out table and sweep and mop floor
- Dust and wipe chairs
- Clean windows
