Once again, last week started well with cleaning but then went downhill.
I don’t know why I seem to have more motivation at the start of the week! The end of the week actually makes more sense as a time to get things done as Lily has two days at “school” (childcare/preschool) and so I only have Chloe. (Sidenote, how funny is it that now having only one child at a time feels so much easier!)
As I said last week I wanted to try and finish the zone from the week before – the bedrooms – before moving into the lounge room and entry way.
On Monday after Lily’s swimming lesson and doing the grocery shopping I decided to try and get a bit done in the bedrooms. Lily had gone to her grandparents’ house for the night and so I deposited Chloe in the middle of Lily’s room, surrounded by toys and took some cloths into our bedroom to start cleaning glass. It didn’t last long until Chloe was back under my feet but I managed to get the balcony doors, mirror and wardrobe doors cleaned, as well as dusting the bed, bedside tables and cot.
On Tuesday Mr Monkey was home and Lily was still at his parents’ house. We somehow managed a sleep-in then I got myself organised and went out for a run (27mins straight!). Once I had cleaned myself up I headed up to Lily’s room and started sorting and organising.
It’s not perfect and she still has too many toys but it’s better. I was able to donate two big garbage bags of toys to a local charity and so far Lily hasn’t even noticed they are missing. I donated any toys that Lily hasn’t played with for awhile, all those tiny little plastic things from Kinder Surprises, and the baby toys that Chloe never played with anyway.
On Wednesday I managed to get all of upstairs vacuumed and while I didn’t completely finish the zone, it looks a lot better.
I should’ve then started on the next zone but I never got around to it. I was mostly focusing on getting the basics done – dishes, clothes washing, general tidying.
So this week I plan to do a few of the tasks from last week’s zone – declutter tv cabinet, tidy off top of bookshelves, tidy shoes, tidy toys, vacuum. Just enough to make the room seem a little more tidy and organised.
Then I’ll move onto the dining room. There’s still a lot to do in there, mostly decluttering things. I need to clear off the “computer” table so that we can get rid of it. There is a bag of Chloe’s clothes at the bottom of the stairs that need to go up in her drawers. There’s a lot of… stuff around the table and the bookshelves that needs to be put in it’s correct place.
It’s a small room with lots of niches so can easily look overloaded and messy. As it’s basically in the middle of the downstairs area it can make the whole house feel messy and overloaded so I really need to work on it.
The hardest part will be the “computer” table. It’s become a dumping ground and is a huge mess. Anything for filing has just been put on the table and to be honest, I haven’t actually done any filing in over a year. I don’t even have any folders set up for this financial year and it’s almost over! It’s going to be a big job to get through but I’m thinking of getting a pile of paperwork and some folders each night and setting them up as I watch TV. It will take awhile but I don’t have the luxury of sitting down and setting everything out to organise it. I can imagine Chloe would love that!
Let’s hope next week is a better update!
