I’m pretty proud to say that I got some of my work done in my cleaning zone last week!
I had planned to spend most of Thursday cleaning the lounge room – I even had my whole day planned out! Except then of course all of my plans got changed. I couldn’t go for a run first off because Chloe woke up and I ran out of time. After driving Lily to school I got home to find Mr Monkey running late for work and I ended up having to drive him. Not even half an hour after I got back I got a call from him asking if I could come and pick him and their microwave up and drive it out the factory to get it fixed. I ended up driving about 100km in total that day and got home just in time to have a quick nap before picking Lily up from school. Poor Chloe was not happy about being in the car all day!
Friday was ANZAC day so Lily had the day off school and we were spending the day at home. So I managed to clear off the top of the DVD cabinet that is just inside the front door. It had become a dumping ground for everything and anything, and was driving me insane. It didn’t take long to sort it all out and put everything back where it belonged. Then a quick wipe over and all good!
Then on Sunday Mr Monkey had the day off and we were home all day. He helped me clear off the couch and then I used our nifty new Steam Mop to steam clean the couch, plus the cushions and Chloe’s little couch. I also gave the couch a good vacuum then steam mopped the tiles at the front door. I started to sort through the toys and ended up clearing them out and Mr Monkey took about half of them back upstairs to Lily’s room. There’s still a lot in the lounge room but it’s looking much better.
I then gave the carpet a good vacuum and then collapsed on the couch. There were still a few things I could’ve done but the room is looking much better than before.
I also managed to get more of my daily tasks done. I wrote out a complete list of what I needed to do each day (including shower, lunch, nap etc!) and although I never completed a list I did get close most days. I’ve been struggling with the “shoulds” a bit – I keep having these niggling feelings that what is a big accomplishment day for me is just a normal day for “most normal” people. I just have to keep reminding myself that I’m doing the best I can.
The Plan for this Week’s Cleaning Zone
This week is going to be a bit harder as we’re at my parents’ house from Friday night, for Chloe’s birthday party on Sunday. I’m just going to have to be more proactive about getting the cleaning done.
There’s a few disaster areas in the dining room at the moment – it was probably tied with the lounge room for the worst room in the house at the moment!
The “computer” desk is a complete mess. We no longer have the PC and there should just be the printer and wifi extender on the desk, plus my study things. I had set the desk up for me to study but I either study on the couch with my laptop or at my parents’ house. So instead it’s become another dumping ground, including all of the filing that really needs to be filed.
The other issue is clothes. Yes, clothes in the dining room. Due to the wet weather lately we’ve had to hang the wet washing on the racks in the dining room, which takes up space and makes the room seem messy. Then once it’s clean it’s dumped into a washing basket which is left in front of the computer desk because I can’t carry it upstairs. It’s starting to overtake the whole room and desperately needs to be folded and put away.
There is also a few bags of clothes – clothes that Chloe and Lily have grown out of, or clothes that Chloe will grow in to. They all need to be either sorted and put into Chloe’s drawers or put into storage in the back shed.
Once these things have been cleared up the room will look a lot better and then be easier to clean.
Now, just to get it to that stage!
