In early September I was invited by Mango PR to attend the family premiere of Disney’s “Tinker Bell and the Secret of the Wings”. I know Lily loves going to the movies so we really couldn’t pass it up.
We had originally planned for myself, Mr Monkey and Lily to attend. We had been offered 4 tickets so we were going to take my niece, Olivia as well and I asked for an extra ticket for Mum as well. Unfortunately all of the plans were changed when we found out we were moving – we were actually moving the majority of our stuff on that day! However, we decided that it would be best to have the girls out of the way anyway so I ended up taking them with my sister, Emma. My cousin, Kaylee, was visiting my parents for a week so she came on the extra ticket. I’m not sure which of the girls was the most excited!
Perhaps one of the most exciting parts of the day was the bus trip! We only go on buses occasionally and Lily loves it. Olivia has only ever been on a bus once or twice, including the other Disney event we went to (for Brave). I’m not sure if Kaylee has ever been on a bus.
Luckily it doesn’t take too long for a bus to turn up to our stop to go to the city because I wouldn’t have liked to stay at the bus stop with the three of them for too long. On the bus they were all very well behaved and loved looking out the window and at the other passengers. I need to think of some more activities to do so that the girls can go on buses more often.
Aren’t they cute? I love how exciting they find such simple things as a bus ride. And Olivia had to come and sit with Lily. The three of us were squeezed on to two seats!
As you can see with the top photo we had some wings and wands for the girl and Lily had a Tinker Bell T.Shirt, Olivia had a Cinderella T.Shirt and Kaylee had a My Little Pony T.Shirt. Lily didn’t want to wear the headband with the butterflies on it but they all looked absolutely gorgeous. They got a lot of comments.
We arrived at the George St Cinemas and headed through the the area outside the cinema. There were so many people there! There was face painting, a clown doing very elaborate ballon animals and a photo booth where you could have your photo taken with Tinker Bell. Unfortunately because there were so many people the lines were long and it was very crowded. Olivia and Kaylee had their face painted but Lily doesn’t like to have her face touched. She did want to get a balloon animal but unfortunately by the time she told me the line was too long.
We headed in to our seats to discover that each seat had a free box of popcorn on it! Score! Plus there were bottles of water available outside the door. Lily thought the popcorn was the best thing ever and got to work demolishing it before the movie had even started. We had also brought my food with us for the girls and most of it was gone by the time the movie was finished.
Once the lights were dimmed, we listened to a little speech from ladies from Disney and we saw Tinker Bell on the screen the girls started getting very excited. There were no previews (which was a little disappointing – I love previews!) and as soon as the movie started I couldn’t get Lily’s attention again.
I have to admit that I was only going along for the girls and hadn’t really expected to enjoy the movie but it wasn’t too bad! Sometimes these sort of movies can be very high pitched and annoying but this one wasn’t. The story was clear and easy to follow and the music was lovely.
What I liked the best was the animation. Such beautiful, vivid colours. The girls all really seemed to enjoy it, although Olivia almost fell asleep towards the end – it was just a little bit too long for her I think. Lily has brought it up a few times since then whenever she sees Tinker Bell; “we saw that at the movies! On the big TV!” So I think she definitely enjoyed it.
We left the cinema and headed back to catch the bus home. I always forget that it’s a bit of a walk from the cinema to catch a bus from Castlereagh St and the girls were tired and grumpy. I ended up having to carry Lily most of the way and I was exhausted by the time we got to the bus stop. Of course, it was only around midday but it had been a big morning for everyone.
So exhausted! Poor Lily fell asleep on the bus and we had to struggle to keep Kaylee awake. We each had bags and the girls were given show bags with wings and colouring pages so we were struggling to carry everyone and keep everything contained. Thankfully we did and were able to head to the new house and help finish the unpacking and moving.
Disney have supplied me with some freebies for you – there are colouring sheets, a maze puzzle, a fact sheet about the Winter Fairies from the movie as well as a tutorial for making wings! Lily is a little too young to really use the colouring pages – she prefers to just scribble all over the page. But I am definitely keeping these until she is a little bit older and can really enjoy them!
To download the sheets just click HERE, click the Tinker Bell folder and you can download them one at a time.
