Not much of a meal plan this week! Lucky Mr Monkey flew to Thailand yesterday morning for 5 days on a food tour that he won through work. Nope, what are you talking about? I’m not jealous at all!

This morning Lily had her first swimming lesson back after the holiday break and she loved it. I think she was even better than her last lesson. My mum and sister came up to our house yesterday and stayed the night so they came to swimming with us. We then quickly dropped in to the library and then headed down to my parents’ house. We’re here until Mr Monkey comes back Friday lunchtime, hence the lack of planned meals.

Friday we pick Mr Monkey up around lunchtime and then most likely straight to the supermarket to do some grocery shopping. We’ve been living on what was left in the freezer and pantry since we returned from camping so desperately need to do some shopping. We will most likely pick up some pre-packaged gnocchi or ravioli and a sauce as they’re easy and quick to prepare.

Mr Monkey goes back to work on Saturday (poor thing, although he has had 2 weeks off) and Lily and I are going to a birthday dinner for Mr Monkey’s brother’s girlfriend.

Sunday Mr Monkey is working again and Lily and I are heading to another birthday party for one of the Mums Group’s babies in the afternoon. I’ve planned a simple Udon and Chicken Stirfry as we will need something easy and we haven’t had a stir fry in ages.

Next week’s meal plan should be a fun one – we are finally home and getting back in to the swing of things and I’ve asked Mr Monkey to help me with the meal plan. I gave him “Heston Blumenthal At Home”, Heston’s new cookbook that is aimed towards educating home cooks. While Mr Monkey is obviously a little more advanced than that he said that he is learning a bit more about the science behind the techniques he already knows. I’ve asked him to choose a few recipes from it for me to cook next week. Actually, Mr Monkey said he was going to buy it for me for Christmas! Great minds think alike obviously :)

    I was going to re-write another 4 week rotating meal plan for our house. The last one I made didn’t work out very well because some weeks the grocery bill went overbudget, and also not all the meals were very Summer appropriate, and some were a bit harder to cook than we can be bothered some nights… So anyway, I was going to write a new one, but we’ve now decided we’re going to do that “1 Million Kilo Challenge”, which will be 10 weeks of meals planning taken care of! So all I need to do is decide what we’re eating until the 29th, as the challenge begins on the 30th.

    I usually write my plans to run from Friday – Thursday, so I can only tell you what we’re having the next couple of nights. Tonight is bangers & mash, and tomorrow will be tacos. Saturday will probably be something easy, and on Sunday we’re off to see Mary Poppins so will probably end up eating out.

      I’ve signed up for the “1 Million Kilo Challenge” as well and will probably do a post once we get more of an idea of what we are doing. It looks like it should be quite interesting.

      It’s a good idea to keep revise how you do the meal plan to make sure it really suits. It sounds like you need to do a bit more research on your meals and their cost and find more suitable meals. It will probably be a bit more work but as you’re doing it only every 4 weeks it might be not too bad. Good luck! :)
